Transforming Spaces: Inside the Design Sample Box for a Cohesive Bathroom Refresh

Where Cohesion Meets Creativity

Every great bathroom refresh starts with inspiration and a clear design direction, then come the samples! In this project, we’re guiding a homeowner through a en suite transformation while creating a cohesive look that compliments the powder room and the kids’ bathroom redesign.

This unified approach gives us a strong foundation while still allowing each space to express its own personality.

Today, we’re unboxing a set of sample options for the client, from a mid‑tone wood option for the vanities to dramatic stone, textured tile, wallpaper, and French gold hardware choices. We walk through how each choice supports beauty, durability, and harmony throughout the home.

The Design Vision: Cohesion Across Every Bathroom

One Vanity Style, Three Unique Spaces

The anchor of this design is a mid‑tone wood vanity that strikes the perfect balance between warmth and neutrality. Inspired by the homeowner’s custom artwork, a piece filled with rich blacks, reds, blues, and yellows, this wood tone choice becomes the thread that ties all three bathrooms together. It allows for a variety of design possibilities, and this is key to this project.

By repeating the vanity style across the en suite, powder room, and kids’ bathroom, we create a unified aesthetic while still allowing each room’s finishes to shift slightly based on function and personality.

Flooring That Grounds the Space

Textured Tile for Depth and Durability

Flooring plays a major role in setting the tone for a bathroom, and for the primary en suite, we’re exploring a textured tile in a deeper hue. While darker flooring can feel bold, the natural light pouring in from the transom window above the shower keeps the room feeling bright and balanced.

This tile’s subtle print adds visual interest without overwhelming the compact footprint of the en suite and is a smart choice for homeowners who want depth without heaviness.

Countertop Options: From Dramatic to Understated

A Stone Story Told Through Color and Texture

Countertops are where luxury and practicality meet. For the primary en suite, we’re considering a sophisticated stone with blacks and greens, a material that instantly elevates the space and complements the bold tones in the client’s artwork. If we decide to go with a more neutral flooring this choice will be a showstopper and given the footprint of the space won’t be outside the client’s budget.

For the powder room and kids’ bathroom, we’re exploring more neutral, durable stones that maintain cohesion while offering easy maintenance for high‑traffic spaces.

A quick comparison homeowners love:

  • Dramatic stone (primary en suite):
    • High visual impact
    • Pairs beautifully with gold hardware
    • Ideal for adult spaces
  • Neutral stone (secondary bathrooms):
    • Durable and family‑friendly
    • Timeless and versatile
    • Allows wallpaper or paint to shine

Wallpaper & Paint: Adding Personality and Depth

Yes, Wallpaper Works in Bathrooms

Wallpaper is one of the most powerful ways to bring personality into a bathroom, and yes, it can absolutely work in humid spaces when placed thoughtfully.

We’re exploring options that echo the client’s artwork, including bold prints, yellow accents, and patterns that bring movement and energy to the space.

To balance the wallpaper, we’re considering either:

  • A soft, neutral white for timeless simplicity, like Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace -2121-70 or
  • A dramatic black for contrast and sophistication, like Sherwin William’s Caviar – SW6990

Black paint in a bathroom may feel daring, but when paired with natural light and warm finishes, it creates a modern, grounded look.

Fixtures & Hardware: The Jewelry of the Bathroom

French Gold for Warmth and Elegance

No bathroom refresh is complete without the right hardware. For this project, French gold is the star, especially the Kohler deck‑mount faucet that instantly elevates the tub.

The French gold transforms the space, laying the foundation for a bathroom that exudes both luxury and warmth.

Texture That Invites Touch

We’re also exploring tactile knobs and pulls that add dimension and a sensory experience to the vanity. These details may be small, but they’re the elements homeowners interact with every day and they make a big impact.
